ABOUT THE ARTIST
Pierre Devos (1917-1972) was a Belgian painter, sculptor and ceramicist.
Pierre Devos was the son-in-law of Constant Permeke who had a great artistic influence on him.
He received his artistic education at the Academy of Tournai and at Ter Kameren in Brussels.
He preferred figures, nudes and portraits. First he was under the influence of his father-in-law, but later he evolved into a stylized design and clean lines. His works were described as: sober, serene, poetic, clear and tender.
From 1945 to 1970, he often exhibited individually in Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Kortrijk, Leuven and Ostend, among others. He also exhibited abroad: Amsterdam, Rome, Milan etc.
His works are located in the Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art (SMAK) in Ghent, the Constant Permeke Provincial Museum in Jabbeke, the Beaux-Arts Museum in Tournai, the Palais Provincial de Namur, etc.
